About The Exhibition

The Cairo International Book Fair is the largest and oldest book fair in the Arab world, held every year in the last week of January in Cairo, Egypt, at Egypt International Exhibitions Center in New Cairo, it is organised by the General Egyptian Book Organisation.

  • The first session of the Cairo International Fair was held in 1969.
  • In 2006 it was considered the second largest fair after the International Traveling Book Fair.
  • The exhibition is visited by about 4 million visitors in one session and is currently considered the largest public exhibition in the world.

The Writer and researcher Suhair Al-Qalamawi was the first to supervise the establishment of the first book fair. That is why the 2008 edition celebrated Qalamawi's Person of the Year.

Yahya Haqi

An Egyptian writer, novelist, and a pioneer of the short story, he was born in Cairo to a family with Turkish roots. He studied law and worked as a lawyer, the diplomatic corps and journalistic work. He is considered a landmark in the history of literature and cinema and is considered one of the great Egyptian writers. In his literary field, he published four collections of short stories, and one of his most famous novels is Qandil Um Hashim, and he wrote many articles and other short stories. He won the State Appreciation Award in Literature, and the French government awarded him the Knight Medal of the First Class in 1983. He was among those who received the King Faisal International Award. Yahya Hakki passed away at the age of 87, after immortalizing a great legacy of thought and literature.
